Dive into English Literature

Dive into English Literature

This course will immerse students currently not enrolled in English language and literature in the tools and methods authors use to create riveting and influential short stories and poems. The goal of the course is to aid students in understanding the tools they need to succeed at analytical reading and writing. Students will learn how to identify key literary elements used by authors and poets to achieve a specific purpose, through daily reading of short stories and poems. Over a seven day period, students will complete a series of activities that will culminate in a multipage literary analysis essay or collection of poems and short stories, which will be shared through a celebration of learning presentation on the final day. Daily lessons will include vocabulary and grammar instruction, the reading of several short stories and poems, and a writers' workshop in which students will create a portfolio of their own short stories, poems, and essays to keep once the course is completed.
