The Glimpse

From 2020

The Glimpse —— To see the other China

  • In 2020, a remarkable story began. Keystone Class of 2024 student Xuan Lan (Katie) founded The Glimpse.

The story of The Glimpse for the 2023-2024 school year began with a bake sale. Last year, we raised $11,700 for Shengshuiyu Elementary School through the “Flower Summer” bake sale and the Foundation Year students’ bake sale. In June 2024, Ms. Che and Ms. Chirsty took four of The Glimpse members (Feifei, Jo, Celine, Maggie) on a journey to Sishui, Shandong Province with passion and love.

We brought donations and books donated by members of the entire Keystone community, as well as teaching activities during our two-day visit. We used simple drama activities to teach the children about gender equality and awareness, introduced them to Chinese culture, and gave them a taste of competitive sports programs.

We believe that the children at Shengshuiyu Elementary School do not usually receive lessons on gender equality, and we wanted to plant the fruit of equality in the children's hearts through our two-day visit.

This year, the stage for The Glimpse story shifted from Sishui to Beijing. The Glimpse expanded its service targets to the Beijing migrant children on the Facilitators’ platform.

During KAP time, students communicated and cooperated to prepare and implement a series of service activities. For example, the “Bake Love Walk” fundraising activity and creating a miniature family book corner for families with migrant children are in the pipeline.

  • In January 2025, we organized a miniature book corner for the families of migrant children on the collaborators' platform. This activity was inspired by the visiting services of the Facilitators’ staff. They found that many families with migrant children live in small spaces, where children do not have separate study spaces and lack tables, chairs, and reading resources. The Glimpse decided to lend a helping hand.

We set up a real-life book donation corner, using bookmarks to share the books we needed to donate. Donors enthusiastically took the bookmarks and placed the corresponding books on the donation shelf.

At the same time, we set up a material donation display board, where donors can scan the code to donate essential learning and living materials such as eye-protecting desk lamps, liftable desks, organizing boxes, and baby milk powder for the families of migrant children.

Until now, we have received parents’ donations, which, like a stream of warmth, converge into an ocean of love, warming the heart of every migrant child. We are grateful for everyone’s enthusiasm and believe that these seeds of love will take root in the children’s hearts and blossom into flowers of hope.
