Weekly Message from Head of School 2023/10/15-2023/10/21
Dear Keystonians,
I hope this letter finds you in good spirits as the air starts to chill and the leaves begin to fall! Throughout the last week, we had the privilege of hosting esteemed educators Carl Anderson, Cathryn Berger Kaye, and Holly Clark at Keystone. Each of them brought a unique perspective and expertise to our community, contributing to a diverse range of presentations and workshops.
Carl Anderson, known for his work in literacy instruction, shared his valuable insights on fostering effective reading and writing practices in the classroom. His expertise in this area has been instrumental in helping students develop strong literacy skills, and our teachers were fortunate to learn from his wealth of experience.
Cathryn Berger Kaye, an expert in service learning, delivered thought-provoking sessions that challenged our teachers and students to reflect and explore meaningful approaches to enhance learning and community engagement. Her expertise in fostering a positive and inclusive school culture of service was affirming and inspiring.
Holly Clark, a passionate advocate for meaningful technology integration in education, guided our teachers and students on leveraging AI to ethically enhance teaching and learning and stay on the cutting edge of emerging technologies. The combination of these diverse presentations and workshops created an enriching experience for our entire community.
Across the school, teachers engaged in deep discussions, shared best practices, and explored new ideas to enhance their instructional approaches. The collective learning that took place will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our students' educational journeys.
“Our ambition is to share successes generously and to learn from failures bravely, to open our doors to many, and to engage fully with the world of education, and the world at large, beyond our gates.”
From Keystone Academy Mission
Thanks to everyone who has made this such a fabulous week at Keystone. It was a particularly energizing week for us as educators. Over the last eight months, we have said in lots of different ways, “we are back”. This refrain was resonant for me this week after returning from traveling to a campus deeply engaged in the vibrant charge of “engaging fully with the world of education”.
Our next opportunity to learn together will be Tuesday evening in the PAC when Mr. Michael Nachbar, Executive Director of GOA, will share about AI and the future of Education in Keystone’s second Educational Salon of the year. I hope to see you there, if not sooner! In the meantime, this afternoon our residential students settled into their first “campus weekend” of the year—a weekend where all boarding students stay on campus and enjoy community and character-building activities and connections—more about that next week!
Yours truly,
Emily
