Dear Keystonians,

As the meetings between leaders from the United States and China come to a close this week, there will be plenty of analysis about what was achieved and what was not. These visits always carry so much weight. We put enormous pressure on a few hours of conversation between a handful of people to shape the future of our two countries.

And yet, I find myself thinking about the foundation of the peaceful relationships between nations.

The real strength of the relationship between China and the United States—between any two countries—is not built in summit rooms. It is built person by person, family by family, friendship by friendship. It is built in classrooms where students learn together across languages. In dormitories, they share meals and stories. In the quiet connections our alumni carry with them as they move through universities and workplaces around the world.

This is the work of Keystone Academy. And our shared future on this planet will be safe and peaceful for all of us not just because of political leaders, but because of all of you—our students, our families, our teachers, our staff. You are the ones who build real bridges. You are the ones who prove that people from different backgrounds can understand, respect, and care for one another, and our fragile planet.

So this week, as the cameras move on and the leaders depart, I am thinking of you. I am grateful for the person-to-person diplomacy that happens here, in our community, every single day.

That is the kind of connection that lasts and will forge the future we all hope for.

Warmly,

Emily
